Lot 157. A peach-shaped cloisonné enameled dish, Namikawa Sosuke (1847-1910), Meiji era (1868-1912); 10 1/2 x 11 3/4in (26.7 x 29.8cm). Sold for US$ 20,312 (€ 17,926) (Est: $8,000 - $12,000). © Bonhams 2001-2021
Rendered in musen with a gnarled prunus branch in the moonlight, its radiating branches beginning to bud, the enamels skillfully used to emulate the tarashikomi technique associated with the Rinpa School, signed Sosuke in a double-gourd reserve near one branch, the reverse executed as a network of scattered plum blossoms in ochre and dark brown enamels surrounding the artist's cartouche.
