The lip of the rim features a punched mark of the coat of arms of the Sion family von Riedmatten (cloverleaf and stars under a bishop's hat). A number of bishops came from this family. It is conceivable that the columbine cup on offer was once in the possession of Adrian von Riedmatten IV or Adrian von Riedmatten V and was marked in this manner.
