Lot 47. An andesite head of a deity, Indonesia, Central Java, 9th century; 22cm (8 5/8in) high. (2). Sold for €8,925 (Estimate € 3,000-4,000). Photo Fabrice Gousset.

The rounded face with features of heavy lidded eyes coveys a serene introspective countenance. His hair is arranged with a broad looping mukhta secured by a graduation double jewelled crown bands and a single leaf at the front and florets above the ears, stand.

ProvenanceJean-Pierre Rousset, Paris (1936-2021), acquired from Spink and Son Ltd., London, on 4 December 1973.
