Ivory, engraved, punched, blackened and painted. Brass mounting. On the top of the lid a wind rose with 16 wind directions, inside scale for a sundial with pole thread and plumb bob hole. Bottom plate with compass and moon clock on the underside. On the left side a recess for the wind vane (not existing). Signed underneath the sun LENHART MIELER 1625. Age damages, discoloured, rest. Losses. Comes with sales permit for ivory objects.
Provenance: Important Bavarian private Collection, assembled between the 1950s and the 1980s.
