NoteThis ovoid jar is of a well-known form, occasionally referred to as a yueyaer guan ('jar with crescent moon handles'). Compare the very similar jar, with its original cover, illustrated by R. Krahl in Chinese Ceramics in the Meiyintang Collection, vol. II, London, 1994, p. 211, no. 866. Another, with a Qianlong mark, is illustrated in The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, Hong Kong, 1984, no. 79. A pair of similar jars and covers, with Qianlong marks, was sold at Christie's Paris, 9 June 2021, lot 39.
