Note: Jars of this type, with an elegant silhouette, accentuated two dark green-coloured floral sprigs on the shoulder, are extremely rare and offers a glimpse into the the mastery of porcelain production attained during the Five Dynasties. This elegant form, with an ovoid body gently rising to a rounded shoulder and narrowed to a lipped mouth, was popular with several northern kilns at this period. Jars with such distinctive decoration and a subtle ivory coloured glaze appears to have been produced in the Jingxing kiln located in Hebei province from the Five Dynasties onwards. See a related jar, together with a similarly decorated stand, illustrated in Meng Fanfeng, Chulun Jingxing yao [Preliminary Discussion of Jingxing kiln], Hebei, 2020, pl. 4.
