Jar and lid, China, Ming dynasty, Hongzhi period (1488-1505). Porcelain painted in underglaze cobalt blue. Height: 12.4cm. Bequeathed by F. E. Colthurst, C.40&A-1946. Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Ovoid jar, with domed and knobbed lid. Recessed foot, unglazed beneath, where the paste shows pinkish discolouration. Painted on the lid, a row of radiating formal leaves, this repeated on the shoulder. Round the base, painted gadroons. Main frieze painted with human figures and landscapes.

Round the body, two sages in a landscape; above, a band of plantain-leaves.

Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Lidded jar of porcelain, pear-shaped, with domed cover, painted with scrolls and blue conical knob. Painted in underglaze blue on the sides with two clusters of peony flowers and foliage, on the shoulder with a border of radiating formal pointed leaves, and at the foot with a band of irregular vertical stroke.

Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Porcelain dish, covered with yellow enamel, except on the base. On the back, diamond-engraved inscription in Persian, Jahangir Shah-e Akbar Shah 1021 (1612-13 AD), meaning that it was owned by the Mughal emperor Jahangir, son of, and successor to, Akbar.

Dish made of porcelain with yellow glaze, China, Ming dynasty, Hongzhi mark and period, 1488-1505. Diameter: 21.6cm. Given by Miss Dorothy Bushell, FE.115-1975. Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Dish of saucer-shaped with rounded sides rising at the rim; straight footring sloped on the outside. The dish is covered overglaze with a light yellow glaze, the base having a plain glaze.
