Ceramic pillows from the Dream Quest Collection at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 26 May 2021

The Dream Quest Collection was assembled since 1990. Beginning with an interest in Cizhou ceramic pillows, the collector gradually expanded his collection to other provincial kilns. Thence, a comprehensive collection of over 100 ceramic pillows, spanning from the Tang to the Qing dynasties, of various shapes, techniques, glazes and decoration was amassed. Lot 526. An oval 'peony' pillow, Liao dynasty (907-1125); 9 3/4in(24.8cm) long. Estimate US$ 800 - 1,200. Sold for US$ 828 (€ 681). Courtesy Bonhams. The bombe body rising from a low foot and tapering into a double ribbed neck set off by paired bovine handles below a flared rim, covered in and out with a pale blue-green glazed of complex craquelure, the foot rim burnt orange in firing.
