A fine and very rare Imperial pair of lemon-yellow-glazed ‘famille rose’ porcelain bowls, China, underglaze blue six-character seal marks Daoguang and of the period. A 'famille-rose' lotus flower covered bowl . Underglaze blue six-character seal mark Daoguang and of the period. photo Nagel Auctions The bowl has steep rounded sides and shallow footring. The domed cover fits over the rim and rises in three low tiers to a smaller dome supporting the spherical knob. The bowl is decorated with three overlapping rows of twelve lotus petals, shaded in pink with straight and wavy veins in darker pink, the tips of the upper row of petals showing below a narrow band of stamens with white stems and... Daoguang seal marks in underglaze blue and of the period (1821-1850) Each with tapering ovoid body decorated with four bats alternately suspending a ribbon-tied chime or a peach above a lotus spray with scrolling tendrils, all surrounded by hibiscus scroll above a band of petal lappets and below bands of ruyi heads and flower sprays on the sloping shoulder, the neck similarly decorated between two small blue scroll handles, all below an out-curved mouth rim with shaped edge... A pair of famille rose bowls and covers. Daoguang seal marks and of the period Each finely potted with deep rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim, painted in bright enamels with a design of butterflies, bamboo, and ripe bursting balsam pears hanging from leafy vines, the design extended over the mouth rim and into the interior, repeated on the cover, the base and top of the cover inscribed with the underglaze-blue reign mark. 11cm (4 1/4in) diam.
