Lot 101. A rare Kakiemon figure of a wakashu [young man], Edo period, late 17th century; 30.5 cm., 12 in. high. Estimate 80,000 — 100,000 GBP. Courtesy Sotheby's. the standing figure holding a folded fan tucked into his obi, decorated in the vibrant Kakiemon palette of iron-red, green, yellow, blue, the kimono decorated with scrolling flowers and foliage and naoshi, the coiffure enamelled in black. Painted with flowers issuing from stylised rockwork and a butterfly overhead, the brown-edged wavy rim painted with flowering branches and insects, 22.4cm diam., crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed Dreher's mark.
