A Japanese Monoyama lacquer casket, 17th century with a domed top with a gilt-bronze handle and engraved hinges cast with a trefoil motif and with a handle on each side, the top decorated with ogee-shaped reserves the inside decorated with floral sprays, the whole decorated with birds on branches, flowers and leaves in black aventurine lacquer inlaid with mother-of-pearl - 27cm. high, 45.5cm. wide, 23.5cm. deep; 10½in., 1ft. 6in., 9¼in.
