'European subject' plate, China, Qianlong, circa 1740. Diameter 23 cm (9 in.) © Luis Alegria Lda at TEFAF Maastricht 2019, Stand 169. Enamelled on a black ground with two musicians, one playing a trumpet and the other a circular horn. The rim decorated with a gilt spearheads border. It has been suggested that this may have been designed by Cornelis Pronk. The Black ground was difficult to produce.
