Pair of Toilet Pots (Pots à pommade), Vincennes Porcelain Manufactory, Vincennes, France, 1746-1748 Soft-paste porcelain with glaze and enamel, The MaryLou Boone Collection, 2006.143, cat. no. 116. LACMA Ceramics played a central role in bringing pleasure to daily routines around personal grooming. Scented pomades, powders, creams and makeup were stored in small jars and lidded containers such as this pair of toilet pots decorated with detailed landscape scenes.
