A Peach-Bloom Glazed Water Vessel with Jade and Silver Mounts, in the Manner of Edward I. Farmer
of beehive form, the body with a mottled dusty rose glaze speckled with white and green, the underside bearing a six-character Kangxi mark, the foot and neck mounted with American silver bands stamped with anthemia, the hinged cover enclosing a pierced and carved jade pebble, depicting a fish among lotus and water-weeds, the stone of a pale celadon tone, retaining traces of the russet skin, underside of cover stamped STERLING, glass insert - height 4 in., 10.2 cm - Estimate: 8,000—12,000 USD
Provenance: Acquired by the present owner circa 1970. Property of a private collection, Boston.
Notes: It is interesting to note that the first 16 lots on the auction liquidating the stock of Edward I. Farmer Inc., held in these rooms, 16th April 1947, included various Chinese porcelain vessels mounted with silver and carved hardstones as desk accessories, similar to the present work.
