A very elegant pear shaped ewer for The Ottoman Market. Kangxi/Yongzheng (circa 1710-1730)
The typical form with looped handle and long, curved spout, decorated on each side in orange and gilt enamel with a leaf-shaped motif in high relief beside two Lily stems. 27cm (10½in) high.- Estimate: £15,000 - 20,000 - Unsold.
Footnote: For an almost identical example, illustrated with a full colour plate, see Volume III/page 935 of The Topkapi Saray Museum Catalogue by John Ayers and Regina Krahl (1986). Interestingly The Topkapi Saray example carries a domed cover with knop finial, decorated in gilt and underglaze blue, fixed to the body with Ottoman silver mounts. It is attributed by the authors to circa 1710-1730.
