NOTE: This work is based on one of the most popular compositions by Francesco Guardi, which he produced in numerous variants. The Piazza San Marco is seen looking towards the Basilica and Campanile with the Procuratie Vecchie and Procuratie Nuove at left and right respectively. There was a large demand for this type of Venetian view, which was enormously popular with the Grand Tourists of the late 18th century.
