The tree of life is one of the most widespread symbolic motifs throughout the world. Han period trees are rare and often associated with the legend of the immortal archer Houyi. He shoots nine of the ten sun-birds, thus saving the world from drought. This tree has further longevity symbolism, including a dragon which represents immortality.
