Platinum and Diamond Ring, Tiffany & Co. - Sotheby's

Set with an asscher-cut diamond weighing 7.45 carats, within an openwork mounting decorated with heart-shaped motifs accented by six old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately .15 carat, size 6¼; circa 1925. Estimate: 250,000 - 350,000 USD

Accompanied by GIA report no. 1152294842 stating that the diamond is F color, VVS2 clarity. Together with a letter from the GIA stating that the diamond has been determined to be type lla.

I.J. Asscher Diamond Company, founded by Joseph Isaac Asscher in 1854, was a highly regarded firm in Amsterdam that specialized in cutting many large historical diamonds such as the Excelsior and Cullinan. Following the establishment of the company, Joseph Asscher advanced his family’s reputation for skill and innovation by developing the “Asscher-cut” in 1902. This elegant and alluring cut can be characterized as a square or near square emerald-cut, a form that has gained international appeal. This emblematic cut, which reached its peak of popularity in the 1920s,became the first to be patented for its original design with the company holding protection until the Second World War

The present diamond ring by Tiffany & Co. is an excellent representation of an Asscher cut with its prominent corners, high crown and relatively small table facet. This 7.46 carat diamond ring distinguishes itself by its charm, sophistication and elegant subtlety, creating a sense of timelessness that transcends the nature of the stone.
