Diamond Fringe Necklace

1

2

Lot 1692. Diamond Fringe Necklace. Estimate 5,500,000 — 6,200,000 HKD (672,632 - 758,240 EUR). Photo: Sotheby's.

The front designed as a graduated fringe of detachable pear-shaped diamonds, to the inverted pear-shaped diamond surmount, suspended from a graduated line of circular-cut diamonds, the diamonds weighing approximately 80.00 carats in total, mounted in platinum, necklace may be worn as approximately 395 or 330mm

Provenance: Property formerly from the collection of Wendy Vanderbilt Lehman (1944-2016).

Note: A woman of elegance

A woman of esteemed elegance, Wendy Vanderbilt Lehman was an honoured member of one of America's most prominent families that led the legendary Gilded Age. A gifted artist and modern-day aristocrat, Wendy was the epitome of style through her bohemian yet cosmopolitan sensibilities – yet ever so natural with her distinguished demeanor that was associated with the Vanderbilt name.

This attractive fringe necklace was initially purchased by Edward Beale "Ned" McLean Jr., the son of famed mining heiress Evalyn Walsh Mclean – who was the last private owner of the superb Hope Diamond. Ned had gifted the brilliant necklace to his wife, which was later inherited by her daughter Wendy. This is a great opportunity for collectors to own a piece of illustrious American history – combined with distinct provenance and sophisticated vogue.
