Lot 1221. A white jade peach-form brush washer, Yuan-Early Ming dynasty, 13th-15th century; 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) wide. Estimate USD 15,000 - USD 20,000. Price realised USD 47,500. © Christie's Images Ltd 2014
The washer is finely carved as a hollowed peach borne on a leafy, flowering branch that forms an openwork handle at one end where a parrot is perched beside two peaches, a flower borne on the underside forms the foot. The semi-translucent stone is softly polished.
Note: Compare two similar jade cups, probably from the same workshop, sold at Sotheby's New York, 19 November 1982, lot 83, and at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 11 May 1983, lot 295, the first dated Yuan-Ming, the second dated Ming dynasty.
