Lot 15. A Longquan celadon washer, Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279); 5 ¾ in. (14.5 cm.) diamEstimate GBP 40,000 - GBP 60,000 (USD 51,400 - USD 77,100). Unsold. © Christie's Images Ltd 2019.

The washer is finely potted with an angular profile rising from the short foot to a slightly everted rim, and is covered overall with an attractive glaze of even sea-green tone with the exception of the foot ring.

Provenance: Private Japanese Collection.

Note: The glaze of this washer is silken to the touch and is of the most sought after even, bluish-green celadon tone often referred to by the Japanese term 'kinuta'. Exquisite glazes with such refined texture and color were rarely achieved outside of the imperial Ru and Guan kilns. The glaze of the present lot may be compared with the slightly smaller Longquan kinuta washer (14.3 cm. diam.) sold at Christie's New York, 22 March 2019, lot 1742.
