A white jade 'Guanyin' headdress ornament, China, Ming dynasty, circa 16th century
Lot 134. A white jade 'Guanyin' headdress ornament, China, Ming dynasty, circa 16th century; Hauteur: 4,5 cm. (1 ¾ in.). Estimate EUR 3,000 - EUR 4,000. Price realised EUR 43,750. © Christie's Image Ltd 2019
Guanyin est représenté assis en rajalilasana sur une feuille de lotus. Il est vêtu de robes souples et paré de bijoux, son visage méditatif aux yeux mi-clos est surmonté d'une tiare, socle.
Note: It is rare to find jade figures of Guanyin of such small size. The presence of two small holes on the base of this current figure of Guanyin suggests that it was used as part of a headdress, as can be seen in a number of Ming Dynasty ancestor portraits.
