Finely potted with deep rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim, the exterior covered with a matte glaze of bright ruby-pink tone, the white interior with anhua decoration of dragons.

ProvenanceThe James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection, Chicago, acquired prior to 1990.

Note: A similar ruby bowl with anhua dragons on the interior in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, is included in Illustrated Catalogue of Ch'ing Dynasty Porcelain in the National Palace Museum, Vol. 1, Taipei, 1980, pl. 139. A similar bowl from The Jingguantang Collection, was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 3 November 1996, lot 561; and another from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, was sold at Christie’s New York, Collected in America: Chinese Ceramics from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 15 September 2016, lot 928. A further Yongzheng bowl covered in rich ruby enamel on the exterior, but plain on the interior, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is illustrated by S. Valenstein, A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, New York, 1989 ed., no. 255.
