Lot 5. A rare and fine crescent-shaped bronze object, late Xia-early Shang period, 16th-15th century BC.; 15,7 x 16 cm. Sold: €40 000 (Estimate €15 000 - €25 000)Photo Nagel Auction.

Bronze with small turquoise inlays and 2 eyelets at the pointed ends for attaching or pulling through a cord or strap. It is very likely that this is either a neck or breast ornament. Bronze with heavy grey-green corrosion, inlays well preserved. Presumably this object was found together with the bronze plaque with turquoise inlays (following cat. no.).

ProvenanceFrom an important private collection, according to the owner in the possession of his family since about 1920, sold at Nagel, 17.5.2006, lot 802 and now from the buyer's estate.
