Color-painted Relief Scene of Musicians Playing, Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (907-979), Hebei Museum.

These relief piece was composed of fourteen maids. Maids were holding various daily necessities such as pots, cup holders, barrier fans, square boxes, dust whisks. Their dresses were elegant and full of movement.
Among the musical instruments featured in the relief work are some of China’s most traditional, such as the pipa (a plucked four-stringed instrument), zheng (a plucked stringed instrument), drum, bamboo flute and sheng (a reed wind instrument usually made up of 17 bamboo pipes).
