A jade and ivory inlaid tapered cabinet (yuan jiao gui) - China, Late Qing Dynasty

The sloping stile wood hinged cabinet decorated on each side and top in gold lacquer with an elaborate water landscape set off to the front with elegantly inlaid double doors featuring upper and lower panels decorated with a series of three white jade chimes suspended by single ivory brackets on the top panels and double brackets on the lower, the inlays finely carved and of even color, separated at the center with a row of four jade pendants, the doors opening to reveal two removeable shelves. 52 x 30 x 18in (132 x 76.2 x 45.7cm) - Sold for $4,500 plus Premium and tax
