Supported on three short and bulging cabriole legs each painted with Greek key-fret borders along the foot, the bulging body with a pair of tall pierced handles emerging from the shoulder rising dramatically and framing the flat waisted rim and surrounded by a band of ruyi-head below, the entire exterior covered in a rich ruby ground and finely painted with dense decorations of Buddhist emblems amid scrolling vines and baoxianghua completed in a variety of colours, the interior of the thickly potted vessel with a turquoise glaze, height 11" - 28 cm. Overall wear to surface and interior but in generally excellent condition. some very minor losses to enamels. Estimated Price: CAD30,000 - CAD50,000
Provenance: Important Chinese Porcelain and Works of Art from an English Gentleman (lots 197-209) Now residing in Toronto, the owner of this collection dedicated the last 40 years to the full-time study of Asian Arts with a main interest in Chinese ceramics, jades and scholarly objects. The majority of the items were purchased at auction and from private collections.Purchased at auction in London during the 1970's.
