Tiancheng International Jewellery and Jadeite Spring Auction 2015 achieves nearly US$ 38 million

HONG KONG.- Tiancheng International Jewellery and Jadeite Spring Auction 2015 concluded with triumph tonight, realising nearly HK$300 million/US$38 million. With 85% of total value sold and 74% of lot sold, the sale is led by eight lots soaring above HK$10 million. The jadeite section and western jewellery section achieved an astonishing sold rate of 83.7% and 85.4% respectively. 

The top lot of the auction belongs to Lot 128 the impressive Jadeite and Diamond Demi-parure ( Estimate: HK$25-30 million/US$ 3.2-3.85 million). Bidding opened at HK$18 million, the refined demi-parure was hammered at HK$25 million, which eventually sold to a phone bidder for HK$29.5 million/US$3.78 million including the buyer’s premium. This Jadeite and Diamond Demi-Parure comprising eight intense emerald green jadeite cabochons. Of captivating translucency, every cabochon emanates spectacular sheen, with size measuring up to 20.31x 17.13 x 9.73mm. It is extremely exquisite to match eight full-bodied cabochons of similar size and luminous saturation. Accentuated by a total of 73.55 carats dazzling diamonds, this demi-parure showcases a perfect marriage of Chinese and western culture, making it an astonishing treasure of impeccable quality.

Comprising a necklace, a ring and pair of earrings, the necklace composed of five jadeite cabochons of high translucency and intense emerald green colour, decorated with pear-, marquise-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds; the ring centring on an oval jadeite cabochon of similar colour, surrounded by pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds extending to the shoulders; and pair of matching earrings, the diamonds altogether weighing approximately 73.55 carats, mounted in 18 karat white gold, length approximately 442mm. Ring size: 6½ (3)

Accompanied by Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory reports numbered KJ89642-KJ89643, KJ89645 and KJ89646(1-5), dated 20 March 2015, stating that the jadeites are natural, known in the trade as 'A Jade'.

Another star item named “Eternity of Love”, a 25.72-Carat Heart-shaped D Colour VS2 Clarity, Excellent Polish and Symmetry Diamond Ring. Followed by an intense bid battle, the exquisite diamond ring was sold for HK$ 24.78 million/US$ 3.18 million including the buyer’s premium. “Eternity of Love” is cut and polished from a 67.45-carat diamond rough. Its substantial 25.72-carat weight complements a minimalist heart-shaped design to provide a symbol of unyielding love that endures the test of time. This diamond has an excellent polish and symmetry, with D-colour and VS2 clarity, possesses a bright, pristine look that inspires love at first sight.

Simply set with a heart-shaped diamond weighing 25.72 carats, mounted in platinum. Ring size: 6

Accompanied by GIA report numbered 5151969738, dated 4 June 2014, stating that the 25.72 carat diamond is D colour, VS2 clarity, with excellent Polish and Symmetry; also accompanied by GIA portrait.

“The Flare of Crimson”, a 52.22-Carat Natural Unheated Mozambican “Pigeon’s Blood” Ruby and Diamond Necklace is also sought-after by connoisseurs. Beginning at HK$15 million and followed by a total of 7 furious bids, the necklace was eventually hammered at HK$ 21 million, and was sold for HK$24.78 million/US$3.18 million including the buyer’s premium. Heightening the necklace’s aesthetic charms is a subtle jewellery design, where 22 rubies totaling approximately 52.22 carats are accentuated by sparkling D-colour diamonds with a combined weight of approximately 59.60 carats, to evoke a lavish beauty and sophistication.

The articulated necklace set with twenty-two graduated cushion-shaped and oval rubies together weighing 52.22 carats, decorated with variously-shaped diamonds together weighing approximately 59.60 carats, mounted in 18 karat white and yellow gold, length approximately 445mm.

Accompanied by Lotus report numbered 5605-0273, dated 16 January 2015, stating that the rubies are natural, Vivid Red colour of medium-deep tone, the deep carmine colour of these gems earns them the Lotus "Royal Red" distinction, of Mozambican origin, with no indication of enhancement; along with a special supplement to report no. 5605-0273 (A Lotus Royal Gem of Distinction), stating that " ...to unite 22 rubies of this quality and size in a single necklace is simply extraordinary...these stones are remarkably well-matched in appearance...possess extraordinary clarity for any ruby, let alone of this size...Should this rubies have been found centuries ago, they would certainly have been claimed by the crown, making this superb jewel a Lotus Royal Gem, our highest honor";

SSEF report numbered 78836, dated 12 March 2015, stating that the 22 rubies are natural, Red colour of strong saturation, of Mozambican origin, with no indications of heating; along with an appendix stating that "the ruby necklace..possesses extraordinary characteristics and merits special mention and appreciation...They have been carefully selected and show a beautifully matching vivid colour and an outstanding purity...Assembling a matching selection of natural rubies from Mozambique of such a quality is very rare and exceptional."

9 GRS reports stating that the 7.02, 6.01, 5.03, 3.43, 3.29, 3.17, 3.11, 3.10 and 3.06 carat rubies are natural, Vivid Red (GRS type "Pigeon's Blood") colour to Vivid Red colour, of Mozambican origin, with no indication of thermal treatment; 

81 GIA reports stating that the diamonds ranging from 1.50 to 0.30 carats are D colour, IF to VVS2 clarity

Accompanied by GIA report numbered 17465222, dated 2 September 2014, stating that the 59.93 carat diamond is natural, Fancy Deep Orange-Brown colour, VVS1 clarity; along with a GIA monograph with compact disc stating that "GIA scientists identified La Splendeur Dorée as a type IIa diamond. Type IIa diamonds are extremely rare in nature...less than 2% of all diamonds. They are the most chemically pure type of diamond, and often have exceptional optical transparency. Some of the first diamonds identified as type IIa originated from India (particularly from the Golconda region)...Among famous gems, the fabled 530.20 carat Cullinan and the 105.60 carat Koh-i-Noor are both examples of type IIa diamonds."

Centring on a cushion-shaped ruby weighing 12.53 carats, flanked by two emerald-cut diamonds weighing 1.51 and 1.50 carats respectively, mounted in 18 karat yellow gold and platinum. Ring size: 6

Accompanied by Gübelin report numbered 12056002, dated 29 May 2012, stating that the 12.53 carat ruby is natural, Red colour, of Mozambican origin, with no indications of heating; along with a note and appendix, stating that 'only few fine, untreated faceted rubies weighing over 5 carat, have appeared in the market so far,...The natural ruby of 12.53 carat,...is one of these gems from Mozambique. It has a saturated and homogenous colour, combined with a high degree of transparency. In addition, this gemstone has been spared of thermal treatment. Such a combination of characteristics is rare in natural rubies of this size.' 

SSEF report numbered 78817, dated 10 March 2015, stating that the 12.53 carat ruby is natural, Red of medium strong saturation, of Mozambican origin, with no indications of heating; along with a Premium Appendix stating that 'the natural ruby described in the gemstone report no. 78817 ...possesses extraordinary characteristics and merits special mention and appreciation. The described natural ruby exhibits an attractive and vivid saturated colour combined with a fine purity...a natural ruby from Mozambique of this size and quality is rare and exceptional.';

GRS reports numbered GRS2013-033802 (Award No.769), dated 18 March 2013, stating that the 12.53 ruby is natural, Vivid Red (GRS type "Pigeon's Blood") colour, of Mozambican origin, with no indication of thermal treatment; along with an appendix to Platinum Award No. 769, Report No. GRS2013-033802, stating that 'the vivid red Mozambique ruby, weighing 12.53 carat exhibits medium to strong fluorescene and is reminiscent in colour saturation of unheated "GRS-type Pigeon Blood ruby". Very rare combination of size over 12 carat, excellent color, very good transparency and brilliancy, and spared of thermal enhancements.';

GIA reports numbered 1166150565 and 2176233336, dated 22 May and 19 April 2014 respectively, stating that the 1.51 and 1.50 emerald-cut diamonds are D colour and VVS2 clarity.
