Abraham Janssens (1575 Antwerp - 1632 ibid.), La Zingara, Young lady with wine glass and artichokes
Lot 1234. Abraham Janssens (1575 Antwerp - 1632 ibid.), La Zingara, Young lady with wine glass and artichokes, oil on canvas, 116 x 94 cm. Estimate € 80000-120000. Courtesy Hampel.
Large-format image showing a young woman in a red dress and green silk cloak and a ornamental knitted scarf, which is attached to her hair jewelry and falls over her shoulders. She sits in front of a dark veil with canopy. In front of her a set table, on a dish with artichokes and another table top with a baked chicken, bread and salt vessel. In her left hand she holds a Roman wine glass. The arms adorned with bracelets made of cameos and intaglios. Left in the background on the screen one column. The presentation is undoubtedly a symbolic allusion to sensory experience content, as are common in the Baroque painting. Again, it should be as similar picture Janssens "Lascivea" an allegorical interpretation of meaning shows.
