Note: This intriguing vanitas still life can be associated with a group of three related paintings, each with slight compositional variations, previously attributed to the German artist Peter Binoit.1 Inscribed in latin along the lower edge of the composition, a biblical verse (1 Corinthians 15:22) echoes the sentiment of the vanitas iconography: "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive."
