The slender vase with rounded shoulders rising to a tall, slightly everted neck, painted in underglaze cobalt with two four-clawed dragons and flaming jewels among clouds, the neck and foot with formal lappet bands, with an inward-slanted foot rim.

Lot 843. A porcelain water dropper in the form of a haetae (mythical lion), Goryeo dynasty (1392-1897), 19th century; 13.9 cm wide. Sold for US$3,584. © Bonhams 2001-2024
Modeled as a crouching haetae with feet drawn close to its body as it looks skyward with mouth slightly open, flames emanating from its flanks, its mane incised with fine lines, its eyes painted in underglaze cobalt and its mouth in copper-red, covered in a clear glaze with a light blue cast.

Of rectangular form with a small spout applied at one end with a cicada in relief, painted in underglaze cobalt and copper, on long the sides with sprays of peony and on the short ends with the characters for "pine" and "longevity," the top with a flying crane.
