Lot 305. Large Terracotta Court Lady, Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220). H 74.5 cm. Sold for CHF 1,250 (Estimate CHF 2,000-3,000). © Koller

 

Terracotta, cold-painted. Standing court lady in a long gown with wide sleeves. The head is made separately; the wooden hands are missing. Minor damage and wear.

Provenance: Acquired from Robert Hafter, Zurich, February 1998.
A thermoluminescence test conducted by the University of Oxford in 1995 confirms the dating.

Terracotta with cold painting. Two male and one female figures with differently modeled faces. The figures were originally clothed and equipped with arms made of perishable material. Each with a Plexiglas base. (3)

Terracotta with remnants of cold painting. The powerful ox stands on a rectangular plinth and is equipped with a harness. The cart is covered and has two wheels. It has a Plexiglas stand.

Provenance: Robert Hafter Collection, Küsnacht, acquired before 2005. Inherited by inheritance to the current owner.
A thermoluminescence test by Oxford Authentication from November 2007 confirms the age.

erracotta with cold paint. Standing lady in a long robe, both hands raised in front of her chest, a bird perched on her left hand. Her round face is accentuated with rouge and red lips, her hair piled high in a double bun. Cracks.

Terracotta, cold painted in brown and red. Consisting of four parts: the ovoid vessel with a high lid stands above a cylindrical base on a conical base.

Cold-painted terracotta. Each sitting on its hind legs above a plinth, one with horns and fangs, the other with a human face, spherical eyes, and pointed animal ears. (2)

Terracotta with traces of cold painting. A grotesque face with large, protruding eyes, topped by short horns. The mouth is shaped into a grin, revealing its large incisors and fangs. Wooden stand.

 

Provenance: From an old Geneva collection. A handwritten inventory from 2002 notes that this object was acquired in 1980.
