Andrew GN autumn/winter 2003: The Catwalk Report

BY cleverly sticking to his winning formula of luxurious femininity, Andrew Gn keeps his loyal fanbase steadily growing, and yesterday's show is bound to win him a few more fashion friends. The Singapore-born, Paris-based designer allowed a touch of Thirties nostalgia, by way of stunningly glamorous sculpted goddess gowns in white, and silver, to infiltrate a collection that featured charming, modest Forties shapes with a touch of the flirty Fifties. The detailing was key, with a black velvet band prettily tied around the drop waist of a subtly flared skirt, and short puffed sleeves adding a vintage element to sheer blouses, and sculpted suits. Wide-legged tailored trousers provided a solid base for pretty jeweled tops that were wrapped in sumptuous shrugs of feathers, fur or more beads, and tight pencil skirts - some of which suddenly flared out at the knee-added plenty of curve. Cashmere tweed coats featuring appliquéd flowers, or high mink collars added a couture-like finality to Gn's particular and impeccable execution.
