As pretty as the frocks were at Andrew Gn, the music had an alternative, aggressive edge that was far and away the most notable oftheweek. DJJeandeLardemelle created the soundtrack for the 12-miniute show, which included two covers of the song "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane and the kicky sounds of the female hip-hop vocalist M.I.A., who is English by way of Sri Lanka.

The "White Rabbit" covers were by members of the Blue Man Group, featuring Esthero, followed by the MurMurs, a New York-based band. Both added a slightly mad, yet playful quality to the ultra feminine collection. It was a mood that hinted of good girls, in fancy clothes, who dream of going wild.

"Andrew had wanted to have the original song, but it's only two minutes," Mr. de Lardemelle said. "We found these other versions and ended up remixing them."

Providing even more acoustic interest was the feminine version of rap created by M.I.A. The tough, feisty nature of the lyrics gave a voice to many-a-girl's inner angry thoughts — along with sounds of barking dogs and cars so real they made members of the show's audience turn their heads. Unlike most songs played at fashion shows, this one was not remixed but played straight to emphasize the artist's dynamic sound, Mr. de Lardemelle said.

The fact that the soundtrack for the show was sung by female vocalists is par for the course when Mr. de Lardemelle and Mr. Gn collaborate on a show. "We almost always end up with female interpretations. It's female empowerment," Mr. de Lardemelle said. Thanks to Pia Catton, http://www.nysun.com
