A carved openwork bamboo brushpot, bitong - 17th/18th century
The cylindrical body mounted with a hongmu rim and footed base, the exterior deeply carved in the reduced ground technique, adding depth to the scene of two Daoists, one with a hoe and a basket filled with lingzhi slung over his shoulder, the other with a hand basket, both walking towards a deer and two ladies in a landscape of gnarled pines and fantastic rocks, the surface with good patina and soft lustre, fitted box. 16cm (6¼in) high.
