A spinach-green jade 'Very Auspicious' vase. Qing dynasty

the flattened faceted vessel supported on a tall stepped foot, the body carved in low-relief on two sides with large double-gourds borne on scrolling vines, issuing smaller double-gourds and leaves, da ji ('very auspicious') carved in low-relief on the main gourd, the tapered cylindrical neck, flanked by loose-ring handles suspended from floral blossoms and stems, culminating in a rounded and stepped mouth, the stone of deep green with dark speckles and white inclusions, wood stand (2) - height 11 in., 27.9 cm - Estimate 10,000—15,000 USD - Lot Sold. 11,250 USD

NOTE: The carving, composition and the rendering of the loop handles are similar to another spinach-green jade vase, attributed to the Qianlong period, sold at Christie's London, 7th November 2006, lot 37. The rendering of the mouth and lip is similar to a nephrite example, attributed to the 19th century, in the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, illustrated in Michael Knight, He Li, and Therese Tse Bartholomew, Later Chinese Jades: Ming Dynasty to Early Twentieth Century From the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, San Francisco, 2007, fig. 120.
