Note: The sitter was the first son of Ferdinand Albert II of Braunschweig-Blankenburg and Antoinetta Amalia of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. As a general, he was appointed in 1733 and holder of a Cuirassier Regiment during the Polish Succession War, the imperial general field sergeant. During the Seven Years' War he fought on the side of Prussia against Empress Empire and France. In 1745 he founded the "Collegium Carolinum" in Brunswick and the Fürstenberg porcelain factory. Domestically, Charles devoted himself, guided by principles of the Enlightenment, comprehensive reforms in his government area. Under his leadership, Brunswick became a spiritual center.
