The blue shi-shi (part lion, part dog) on this cooler was taken directly from a Japanese Kakiemon jar, still in the collections of the prince de Condé, at the château of Chantilly. The austere, slightly tapered shape is enlivened with two marvelous dragon-shaped handles.
