of deep rounded form rising to a flared rim, molded with two raised bowstrings above the short foot, the exterior covered in a deep powdery-blue glaze, the interior glazed white and inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character three column mark within double circles and double circles around the rim.
Note: The form of the present bowl is based on Ming dynasty Xuande prototypes with a cover, commonly found in underglaze blue, and underglaze blue and copper red. See four blue and white-decorated bowls and covers, with Xuande reign marks and of the period, in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, included in the Special Exhibition of Selected Hsuan-te Imperial Porcelains of the Ming Dynasty, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1998, cat. nos 50-53.
