A rich, openwork tendril decoration appears on the gilded surfaces of octagonal, lockable box. Fruchtfestons on the base and on the cover Hermen accentuate shape and decoration. In the center of the sides are each plastic personifications of a season, on the front, the seated figure of spring with flowers in their hands. As a crowning sun figure, the love goddess Venus is represented.
The complex, the box like a net over withdrawing tendril decoration is characteristic of many silver and goldsmith's work at the turn of the 18th century. Danzig was next to Königsberg the most important goldsmith center in the east. Christian I Pichgel (1652-1700, Master 1681), who created this piece, came from a family of goldsmiths. SN
