Of typical rectangular form with domed cover, the polished black lacquer ground lacquered in gold hiramaki-e and inlaid in shell, the top and sides with lozenge-shaped panels of stylised birds perched among flowering plants, within borders of diaper designs and formalised flowers, the interior of plain black lacquer, the handles and clasp of gilt metal, the latter engraved with flowering plants. 28.5cm x 46.4cm x 23.5cm (11¼in x 18¼in x 9¼in).
