The bowl is moulded to the exterior with a band of slender lotus petals, emanating from the foot. It is covered in a glaze of soft bluish sea-green tone, pooling in the crevices of the decoration and stopping neatly at the foot, inscribed Japanese double wood boxes
Provenance: Collection of Umegami Songyu (1881-1945), Kyoto
Note: The Japanese wood box accompanying this tea bowl is inscribed with the signature Seian, which is the studio name of Umegami, Songyu (1881-1945), a renowned Buddhist monk as well as a tea master based in the Honganji Temple in Kyoto.
