A fine and rare famille rose ‘sanduo’ tea bowl, Yongzheng six-character mark and of the period (1723-1735)

The exterior of the cup is delicately painted in famille rosepalette with the ‘sanduo’ fruits, including two rosy-pink peaches borne on a leafy branch, two pomegranates, one of which revealing the ruby-red seeds, and a spray of five longan fruits. The centre of the interior is painted with three small peaches in iron red.
Note: Yongzheng-marked bowls of this pattern are extremely rare and very few examples are known. A similar pair of Yongzheng marked and period sanduo bowls from the A.E. Hippisley collection, was sold at Anderson Galleries, New York, 30 January 1925, lot 194 (fig. 1)..

A similar pair of sanduo bowls, also of Yongzheng mark and period, previously from the E. T. Chow Collection, was sold three times at Sotheby’s over the past half-century, the most recent being 25 April 2004, at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, lot 247. On the E. T. Chow bowls, however, only one fruit is depicted on the peach and pomegranate branches.
