Note: Several examples of bronze daggers with handles in the form of a stylized bird are illustrated in Umehara Sueji, Yin Hsu. Ancient Capital of the Shang Dynasty at An-Yang, Tokyo, 1964, pl. 40.2 and 4. All of these examples are thinly cast and very light suggesting that they may have had a ritual rather practical function.
