Made in imitation of Song dynasty Guan ware, the vase is covered overall including the base, with an unctuous, opaque, grey-green glaze suffused with fine, clear crackle, box.
Provenance: Acquired in New York before 1960.
Note: A very similar small vase, but with Qianlong mark, was sold at Sotheby's Paris, 18 December 2012, lot 223. Two further Qianlong-marked examples, one with a Guan-type glaze, the other with a Ge-type glaze, are illustrated in Porcelain Vases of the Imperial Qing - The Huaihaitang Collection, Hong Kong, 2007, nos. 36 and 48.
