The cover has a flat top surrounded by thirteen rounded lobes that curve downwards to the upright sides, and the box is of similar shape and raised a thin foot of corresponding outline. The exterior is covered in reddish-brown lacquer, and the interior with an olive-brown lacquer, Japanese wood box.
Provenance: Mayuyama, Tokyo, Japan.
