The larger bowl is decorated on the exterior of the rounded sides with vignettes of orchids reserved on a pale café-au-lait ground below the gilded rim. The smaller bowl is decorated on one side with a vignette of orchids, prunus and bamboo, and on the reverse with a butterfly and a chrysanthemum stem, reserved on a cafe-au-lait ground below the gilded rim.
