Two lacquered wood covered boxes - Warring States Period/Western Han Dynasty
The first raised on a high shallow foot supporting straight sides and a domed cover, the wood base covered in and out with a brown/black lacquer and embellished with broad bands of c-commas and geometric trident patterns alternating from the banded edges and heightened with yellow lacquer and gilding, fitted with paired bronze mounts on the base and a ring handle on the cover, the interior surface coated with red lacquer; the second set on a broad, circular foot ring with flared sides and recessed edge supporting a domed cover and decorated in red lacquer with broad bands of opposed c-commas on the cover set off by a wide red lacquer border below a sawtooth band at the base, red lacquer interior (one section of the base restuck on the first container, extensive restoration and stabilization to surface of both pieces). 4 3/4 x 9 7/8in (12.5 x 25cm);(7 1/4 x 7 3/4in (18.5 x 19.7cm) - Estimate: $8,000 - 12,000
