18th century Meissen Chinoiserie sold at Bonhams London, 4 July 2024

Painted in the manner of P.E. Schindler, the saucer with a chinoiserie scene depicting a figure flanked by a tree and rockwork and a table with objects, within a gilt quatrelobe cartouche filled with Böttger lustre and edged with iron-red scrollwork, the teabowl with two similar cartouches and a circular medallion with flowering branches issuing from rockwork and a fence on the inside, gilt scrollwork borders to rimsgilt numeral 77. to both, each with / incised inside footrim (2)

Each painted with a chinoiserie scene in the manner of J.E. Schindler, the saucer with a figure holding a parasol and smoking box, the teabowl with a figure poking a brazier, within a qilt quatrelobe scrollwork cartouche filled with Böttger lustre and edges with scrollwork in shades of iron-red, the reverse of the teabowl with flowering branches hanging from the rim and the inside with a circular medallion with flowers inside, gilt scrollwork borders to the rims, gilt numeral 9. to both, incised x inside footrim of saucer (very minor wear, minute chips to rim of teabowl) (2)

Of flattened ovoid form moulded with a female mask on each side, the neck and lower body moulded with fluted bands heightened in gilding and iron-red, painted on each side with a chinoiserie scene depicting two large figures, mounted with a gilt-metal stopper attached by a chain.
