Jade Horse, Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771 BC); 5 cm high, 7.7 cm wide, and 1 cm thick. Unearthed in 1993 from the Tomb No. 63 of the Jin Marquis Cemetery in Quwo county, Shanxi province, © Shanxi Museum.
This jade horse is a grayish-white, three-dimensional sculpture. The horse has a serene posture, a thick neck, flared nostrils, slightly bulging chest muscles, and a tight, rounded rump and abdomen, which is quite anatomical. The horse's muscular outline is depicted with graceful and soft double-lined cloud patterns, combining realism and decorative beauty. Unfortunately, the ears and tail are damaged.
